Description
I wish I had a clue what it is that I am offering for sale. It is marked Will Young & Co Phila Penna. He was a maker of scientific and mathematical instruments, mostly transits and engineering instruments. In business from 1825 until it was bought by Keuffel & Esser. Operating under the name William J Young & Co from 1867-1870. I can’t find another instrument like this, for some reason it makes me think of some kind of electric generator or engine, similar to some early magneto devices. But I just don’t KNOW. It measures about 10” x 4 1/2” at the base, there are parts that stick out further. About 5” tall. Weighs over 15 1/2 pounds as it sits on a solid cast iron base. Shows some wear and soiling. Please view all twelve photos to help judge condition. Any information or guesses would be welcome. Insurance and signature confirmation included on domestic shipping charges.
